Goodbye, blue wall. Hello, guest bedroom!

It took me all of March to finish the guest bedroom, and it STILL isn't even completely done!!! I'm still blaming night shift for my lack of productivity, but this week I am on dayshift (although back to nights next week) and the room has come along enough that I can show you some progress!!!

First, let me say that Pete and I wanted our guest bedroom to be different than the rest of our house. This room isn't about us. It's about our guests. So we want it to be an inviting space. Most of our house guests are around our ages, so we decided to gear this room style-wise to appeal to them while still including necessities to accommodate our slightly older guests (Hi, mom & dad!). We went for a fun and contemporary style with lots of geometric patterns in bright bold colors. I was a little nervous about this since I'm a neutral lover, but I'm actually finding myself jealous and wishing I had this room back in my bright and colorful dorm room days!!

The previous owner painted the room beige with one blue wall. It's really not a bad color blue, but I would just rather have neutral walls with all the bright colors we have going on with decor. Luckily, the owner left us with leftover paint for the whole house, so I already had the exact shade of beige I needed to match the other three walls. We were ready to say goodbye to the lonely blue wall!

Geometric Guest Bedroom | Meet the B's

Unfortunately, when I opened the can, a TON of rust fell from the edges into the paint.

I was so upset thinking I ruined the paint! I actually tried straining the paint through panty hose into another container. Haha! Guess what? It didn't work. However, it did get rid of the top layer of paint including enough of the rust specks that I felt the paint was okay to use. So I slapped on the first coat

After two coats, I loaded in the decor that I had purchased and/or created so far. It still needs a few finishing touches, but at least you can see the vision!

I still need to fill in pictures/art in the frames on the shelf above the bed. I would also like to find a few more small accessories like a vase or candles.

I found this ceramic garden stool at Homegoods. I thought the colors of my Young House Love book made it fit for decor :) I created a small "Be Our Guest" print to go on top of the stool. It's hard to tell in the photo, but the background of the print is grey chevron.

I've had this shelving from Ikea for a long time. I thought this was the perfect use for it! I just need to find some better accessories to go in it instead of filling it with Harry Potter and Twilight books ;)

I found those super cute mirrors on clearance at Hobby Lobby! The dresser is Pete's old one from his apartment. I'm still on the hunt for curtains (for the whole house actually). I'm hoping to find a solid greenish yellow to match the colors in the throw pillow patterns.

WiFi Password Art | Meet the B's

I also created this cute wi-fi password art!! I'm hoping to come up with a more clever password and then reprint it, but at least now guests can easily access the internet while they are here! I clearly need some flowers for that vase too ;)

I also plan to put together a basket of supplies (towels, bathroom goodies, water bottles, etc.) which I will probably place on the dresser.

Almost complete! What do you think so far?

  1. Looks great so far! Love the wifi password idea! Every single guest asks and we always have to dig it out of our desk - this is brilliant!!!

  2. My Aunt bought me the Young House Love book - I love it and the blog! Your guest room looks great! I was in the process of fixing up my guest room, but partway through my friend needed a temp place to live so she's in there (so embarrassing - the walls have spackle patches all over! good thing she's a close friend!)

  3. I bet the room looks so much larger having all the walls the same color. It's a nice, fresh neutral. Love the way you styled the room, too!

    1. Thanks so much! It's not a huge room to begin with, but it certainly does look bigger with the walls all the same color! It makes a big difference!

  6. I love all of the patterns! I wish I could be brave and mix and match. I just haven't found my confidence in that yet.

    1. I was nervous about mixing patterns too! This bedding set actually came all together (with the pillows) and it just looked so cute, I decided to mix patterns throughout the rest of the room too! I think as long as the colors go together, it works!! I had a lot of fun with it :)

  7. Such a sweet room. Love the colors. The wi-fi print is a brilliant idea. Can I make one suggestion? Whenever I'm a guest, I usually want to read before I go to sleep, and have found that so many guest rooms don't have a lamp, just overhead lighting. I would recommend a lamp. =)

    1. Thanks for the suggestion! I also love reading before bed! We actually have a lamp destined for this room, but it's currently in our formal living room that has no over head lighting! Once I find a great lamp for that space, the current one will move on up to the guest room :)
