Happy Wednesday, my friends! Today's wedding craft is super simple and a super quick post! Why? Because Wedding Wednesday is taking a short break next Wednesday for a super exciting project next week with a group of ten other fabulous bloggers, and I need to take advantage of being off work today to finish my project!!! Be sure to come back next week to see what all the excitement is about!!!
While planning our wedding, I became slightly obsessed with birdcages. They added the perfect touch of shabby chic to our wedding theme! They're also very versatile. You can use them for cards, candles, flowers, etc. And the best part is you can paint them to match your wedding colors!!!
My mom and I collected cages for months. There are plenty of beautiful expensive birdcages out there, but we were bargain hunters. I don't think I paid more than $20 for any of our birdcages and most of them were way cheaper! Here are some of the stores you can usually find birdcages in: Michaels, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabrics, Ross, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, Ebay, and Save-on-crafts! Use those craft store coupons!!! While we bought cages from all of these stores, Michaels usually had the biggest selection.
After collecting, all we had to do was grab some spray paint and get to work!! Can't find a spray paint color to match your wedding colors? Buy a small pot of latex paint in a matching color (have the store color-match it for you if you can't find one you like) and pick up a paint sprayer from your local home improvement store. That's what we used on our aqua cages!
If you are using new cages, you shouldn't need to prime. The paint should stick just fine. If you have older cages with chipped paint, lightly sand chipped areas with fine sand paper, then prime and paint.
Use your creativity to display your cages. Fill them with cards. Give them to your florist to fill with flowers. Hang them from trees. Display votives in them. Use them as centerpieces. Search Pinterest for more ideas. The possibilities are endless!
Aw I love this! We used one for cards at our wedding and it was so perfect. I especially love the hanging ones and how you used them in your photos!
