After my mom shared the keepsake wedding garter she made for me last week, I was inspired to look for more ideas of things you can do with your wedding dress after the wedding bells are done ringing. Here are thirteen great ideas!!!

That's exactly what I did with mine, and my daughter was telling all her friends, this is my mums wedding dress' I made it an exact replica of my wedding dress- only smaller-looked wonderful
Wonderful ideas! I used the skirt of my gown to make a cover for the basket cradle my 3 sons used for their first few months. Then, a year ago, today, my d-i-l wore a detachable train I made from my gown, I also made a ring pillow, garter belt and headdress for her from the fabric and lace from both my gown and veil. Then I made a princess tutu for my new granddaughter. Now I plan to make her and I identical bed cushions, re-using the fabric and lace from the train. So many memories, such treasured pieces.
We will be married 50 years on May 8th. While we were on our honeymoon, my mother took it to the cleaners and had it cleaned and sealed in a box. Not that I didn't appreciate it, but do wish she'd waited until I got one more look. It is still sealed in the box, but I'm taking it out on this year's anniversary. Maybe I'll use one of the suggestions and do something with it.
I made my dress into my daughter's first communion dress and my son's first communion tie. I'm also keeping the rest of the fabric and embellishments to make something for each of my children for their weddings.
Mine was cleaned and sealed in a box as well. Then last year, our church hosted a "Bride of Christ" Conference and featured gowns from different decades on mannequins in the background in the sanctuary. I gladly unsealed the box, let them use the dress, and then enjoyed watching my 13 yr. old try on the dress and take pictures. It's back in the box, waiting for another occasion to shine~ maybe when I'm finally blessed with a grandchild.
There are places that will take wedding dresses and make baby gowns. These gowns are for the babies that fo not make it out of the hospital. What a wonderful gift of love.
Thanks for all the ideas!! I was asked to make something for a friend, from her wedding dress. Lots of ideas from, quilts, pillows, Christmas ornaments, Christmas stockings, a bear or dog, or even a photo album!! All of these are "GREAT IDEAS"!! Thanks again !!!!!!!!!!!
Donate your gown to one the many non-profit groups that use wedding gowns to make burial garments for nicu babies. This one is at Houston's Texas Children's Hospital http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Volunteers-stitch-love-into-infant-burial-gowns-1801301.php but there are many such groups out there. There are some dress requirements so check first before sending your dress. Mine is too yellow (almost 40 years old) or I would do it.
These are all such great ideas! Mine is still hanging in the bag!
