Last week I told you all about the surprise 30th birthday we threw for my husband, Pete, and his best friend, Billy. One of the fun DIY projects I did for the party was these super easy beer mugs!!!

How to make your own 30th birthday beer mugs:
I designed the text in my Silhouette software using the font Hobo Standard. I decided on "30 & Thirsty." When designing it, I put the ampersand at the bottom because I knew I would be putting the opposite color on each mug (green text with blue ampersand on one and vice versa) and thought it would make it easier to cut out if it was farther away from the rest of the text.
I purchased vinyl from MyVinylDirect* and used the Silhouette software to cut out my design.
I ordered two glass beer mugs on Amazon to use for this project. I cleaned them thoroughly and made sure not to touch them. Greasy finger prints make it difficult for vinyl to stick!
After I cut out the letters and numbers, I used clear contact paper as my transfer medium. I cut strips of contact paper, smoothed it over the top of my design, carefully lifted each letter from its backing paper and then applied to the mug. I used a credit card to smooth out each letter before removing the contact paper.
That's it! This was only my second Silhouette project, and I am more amazed each time with how easy it really is. The designing part takes some time and learning, but the application is oh-so-simple! I love my Silhouette Portrait!
And I think the guys loved their fancy mugs! :)
