Ideas for fall decorating in a minimal way
Fall is one of my favorite seasons to decorate for. I don't know if its the warm earthy colors or the yummy smells of apples, cinnamon, and caramel, but I just love this time of year! This year I have been on a journey to simplify my home by decluttering and purging unecessary belongings and by minimizing my decor. I wasn't quite sure what that would mean for fall decorating, but I'm happy with where it is heading!

When I brought my pumpkins out of storage this year, for the first time ever I felt overwhelmed by them! There were so many! And all different styles that didn't flow together.
I spent some time going through them and choosing my favorites. Not surprisingly, the favorites were mostly natural looking pumpkins or at least in a natural color even if a different material (I have a few wool, fabric, and raffia pumpkins).
The rest were donated. And I felt so good about letting go the ones I no longer loved!
So now I had a few pumpkins to scatter throughout the house in a minimal and non-overwhelming way, but I needed some other touches of fall too!
In my last post I mentioned some different ways you can add fall color without using any pumpkins at all! This is the season of texture and color!!
Don't worry, I still love pumpkins and did use them in my decor, but much more sparingly.
I'm still working on my fall decor, but I want to show you what I've done so far. I brought in some subtle fall colors through greenery, accessories, and artwork.
Minimal fall decor ideas
In the kitchen, I kept things really simple. I added some fall colored florals with a mix of plum and maroon store bought flowers and some greenery from my yard. I love having fresh flowers or greenery in the house as often as possible!I also filled this beautiful wooden bowl with apples. Apples are harvested in fall, so they are a perfect for naturally incorporating fall vibes!! I chose a variety that had red and yellow coloring. It helps that they're delicious too 😉
In the dining room, I updated a vase I had recently purchased by painting the bottom half of it to look like clay. This added warmth to the room. I found some golden colored florals at Michaels for 40% off. I finished this simple vignette with a single medium sized pumpkin.
On the sideboard in the dining room, I have some vintage pear art on the wall. I keep it there year round, but pears are also harvested in fall, so this is a perfect fall art idea.
I added another medium sized pumpkin here. As the leaves begin to change outside, I'll probably swap this faux greenery for some beautifully colored branches of leaves. Bringing nature indoors is always easy decor!
In the living room, I have a few smaller vignettes throughout the room. I use a lot of trays in my house to corral small items. It's easy to swap out one item for a small pumpkin or a fall scented candle.
The mudroom is probably the largest fall display in our home, and only because I wanted to display this sweet pregnancy announcement I shared on Instagram recently (That's right! We're expecting baby number 3! 🙂 )
In this space, I added my sage green wool pumpkins I bought last year from Homegoods (I just couldn't let these cuties go!) and my new family pumpkin patch sign (I purchased it from this shop on Etsy!)
