Inspiration for classic black staircases
It's week three of the One Room Challenge!! We made some good progress this week. The main thing I worked on was painting the balusters on the staircase. I painted the banister and newel post black when we first moved in, and I've toyed with the idea of painting the balusters ever since! I finally decided to go for it! So today, I thought it would be fun to look at some black staircase inspiration photos!

Black staircase inspiration
Black instantly adds a touch of elegance to any staircase and feels so timeless. And accessories can change the entire style of the space. Black is very versatile! Let's look at some examples!Staircase by Athena Calderone's home on Architectural Digest

Living Room Progress
Here's our staircase with painted balusters! Yay! And me! Hiiii! My four year old helped me take this picture and he was so excited! I look like a tired mom, and this is a very cheesy set up, but hey, we tried! 😁
I shared lots of tips on painting balusters over on Instagram. We're still researching the best products and method for painting the steps.
I bought these beautiful prints from Juniper Print Shop. My husband really wants me to keep these wooden frames because he loves a more rustic look. But now that I have the print in the frame, I'm not sure this is the best combo. What's your vote? Find a different set of prints for above the stairs? Or different frames?
I had to bring my elephant ear in for winter that my sister gifted to me for my birthday this year. I ordered this affordable plant stand, and I think it works perfectly in this corner at the bottom of the stairs.
I'm going to put a brass sconce above the plant. Can you visualize it??
I also worked on painting the entertainment center. I converted a dresser to an entertainment center several years ago. It was one of our first DIY builds and I would do things very different now, but until I find the perfect piece, I decided to continue using this.
I originally finished it with black paint and cerused wood for a modern farmhouse look. I don't really love that look as much anymore, so I went for a much more traditional color. I chose something from Sherwin's historic collection. I know this color might not fit everyone's taste, but I'm really happy with how it turned out and think it classes up this piece. Those handmade plywood doors feel a little more aged and timeless instead of just a crappy DIY 😉
I also got some exciting shipping notifications this week! I'm happy to say that everything should arrive on time!! Now the only shopping I have left is accessories and a table for behind the sofa.
This weekend we're hoping to work on the coffee table and end table, paint the trim, and install that sconce!
