I can't believe Cade is already three months old and I still haven't shared his nursery! Ahhh! Where has the time gone?! I forgive myself, because I've been enjoying every little second with my little man. A lot of things have gotten brushed aside for a bit, and I've really surprised myself by being okay with that! It's funny how things change :)
Well, I finally got around to taking some pictures of the nursery, so I have a few projects to show you before I post the nursery reveal! Today, I'm sharing this cute little wooden crate I painted to store his books!
Materials:
-paint in two colors
-paint brushes
-pencil for transfering "BOOK" text
I started with a plain wooden crate from Home Depot (you can also find them at Michaels). Don't you just love crates? They can be used for so many things!
After the the primer dried thoroughly, I applied some orange paint. I used acrylic paint because I had it on hand, but it ended up taking about three coats. You could also use latex or chalk paint.
To label the crate, I used one of my favorite techniques. Print the text in the font of your choice. Shade the back of the text with a pencil. Position the text in the desired location, and then trace over the letters. The shading on the back will rub onto your project leaving an outline of the letters! (You can see a detailed step by step tutorial here.) I filled in my letters with an aqua colored acrylic paint.
I also cut a piece of navy blue poster board to place in the bottom of the crate. The crate I purchased has a slatted bottom, so the poster board keeps the books from falling out of the bottom. You can see a little bit of the poster board in the photo above.
I love, love, love how it turned out! I think I might make some more for toys too!
I can't wait to share the rest of Cade's nursery with you! Check back soon!

ReplyDeleteI wish I would have known that primer was the cure to knots showing through.....have the problem with something I painted that I'm NOT willing to redo! Love your book storage idea and glad everything is going so well with Cade!
