I know I've been going on and on about our laundry room makeover since last January, but it really is almost done!! Really!! There are walls, and floors, and cabinets! Now, we just have a few finishing details to work on. Like this super easy rustic wooden ironing board hanger my husband and I made!
It really was easy to make! Here's how we did it...
We started off with a 2 x 4. We measured it to be a few inches wider than the ironing board on each side.
I wanted it to have a distressed look to help give it that rustic feel. So we took some frustrations out on it ;) I found all the tools and gadgets I could think of to cause some destruction with. We hammered directly onto the wood to make big dents. We hammered things into the wood and then removed them. We dragged things across the wood to gouge it. We pressed saw teeth into. We sanded down the edges. Anything we could think of to make it look old and beat up. It was actually a lot of fun!
Apparently it was so much fun, that I forgot to take a picture of it, but here is one after applying a coat of stain (Rustoleum in Dark Walnut).
Then we screwed in some hardware. We found these two coat hooks at Lowes. Once the hooks were installed, we nailed the wood to the wall right in the middle, where the nail would be hidden by the ironing board. We also made sure to nail it into a stud so that the weight of the ironing board wouldn't pull it off of the wall.
It's really hard to take decent pictures in the laundry room because there are no windows and only one small light, so I hope you are able to see the detail in the wood! It looks so cool in person! This just might be one of my favorite projects!
And wanna know a secret? That ironing board... it's painted. It used to be white. We sprayed it with Rustoleum's Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint. I found the linen colored ironing board cover at Target.
Seeing the ironing board hanging on the wall makes me so happy! This room is finally coming together! I can't wait to show you the rest!
I found my way here through morning coffee with Making It In The Mountains and Kristi. I love this little project! I have a laundry room in the "new" house I am making over right now and this is just what I need. Thanks for posting it. By the way, you are added to my morning coffee route! :)
I came here just to see where your ironing board came from because I loved the color of the legs so I am SO GLAD you shared that they are painted... here I go to buy more spray paint! :0
LOVE this Nicole! Can't wait to see how it all comes together!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kristi! I'm so thrilled with how it's all turning out! :)
